IgnacioGrossmann_Bild_webIgnacio E. Grossmann is the R. R. Dean University Professor of Chemical Engineering at Carnegie Mellon, and member of the „Center for Advanced Process Decision-making” and member of the National Academy of Engineering. His research interests are in mixed-integer, disjunctive and stochastic programming, energy systems, and planning and scheduling for enterprise-wide optimization. In this lecture, he first gives a historical account of the evolution of Process Systems Engineering (PSE) highlighting key contributions in industry. Next recent research trends in Chemical Engineering are discussed that influence future research directions in PSE that include energy systems, sustainability, process intensification, smart manufacturing, digitization, materials design, systems biology, and healthcare.
