Entry Requirements for Foreign Students

Academic Performance

For admission to the Master's Programme, a B.Sc. or equivalent degree in chemical engineering is required. Applicants must show an excellent previous academic performance.

Internship

As the Master’s degree programme does not include a vocational component, an engineer-related activity (internship) of at least 9 weeks (which is equal to the practical training of the Bachelor’s degree programmes in chemical or biochemical engineering at the TU Dortmund University has to be proven. The internship office of the Faculty Biochemical und Chemical Engineering shall decide on the equivalence.

It is also possible to do this internship later (also in Germany), e.g. before writing the Master thesis. However, the department of biochemical and chemical engineering does not provide such an internship and students have to find it on their own then. In addition, this would prolong the time of the Master's programme.

Language Test

Since the Process Systems Engineering stream of the Master's programme is exclusively taught in English, all applicants must provide a Graduate Record Examination (GRE) certificate. (Institution Code: 8523, Department Code: 1001) Detailed regulations are to be found in the Admission Regulations. Although not demanded by the department of biochemical and chemical engineering of TU Dortmund, TOEFL/IELTS will mostly be asked by the embassies during the visa process. Therefore we ask to undergo a TOEFL, too.
In addition we appreciate knowledge of German although this would not be part of the application.

Admission is based on your overall academic performance, recommendation letters, GRE scores, Statement of Purpose and further qualifications. For the evaluation bachelor courses dealing with process control systems, logics, simulation, mathematical models etc. will be weighted more than others. We will not be able to give GRE/TOEFL scores securing the admission.
